Games Like Wartune — Fantasy Strategy RPGs 2026

Wartune tried to be three games at once — a turn-based party RPG, a city builder, and a guild-war game — and the ambition is genuinely why people remember it. It is also why the VIP system covers so much ground: Wartune sells tiered VIP levels, and there are three progression tracks for them to apply to instead of one.

Three Games in One Tab

Wartune stacks a turn-based party RPG on top of a city builder, then wraps both in guild-versus-guild events. You level a hero, recruit troops, build and upgrade a town, farm and plunder other players' resources, and turn up for scheduled guild battles. Very little else in the browser space combines those layers, and when the systems click the variety is the whole appeal.

The friction is the breadth of the monetisation. Wartune sells tiered VIP levels, stacked daily buy-backs and event-ladder packs, and because there are three progression tracks, those purchases apply to all three at once. Free play works, as a slower single-player experience. If you are looking elsewhere it is usually for one of two reasons: you want the hybrid without the paid layer, or you have realised you only ever cared about one of the three layers.

10 Games Like Wartune

RPG and kingdom building together, without the VIP ladder

  • TokenLordsRPG — turn-based combat with elemental matchups, a kingdom of businesses and resource lands underneath it, and guild boss raids on top. The same three-layer idea, with no VIP tier gating content. (We publish TokenLordsRPG.)
  • Forge of Empires — city building with real tactical battles and guild expeditions.
  • Elvenar — fantasy city building with lighter combat.

If the party combat was the part you liked

  • League of Angels — the closest match for hero-team battles in a browser.
  • Epic Seven — manual turn-based combat with real tactical decisions.
  • Drakensang Online — real-time action combat instead of turns.

If it was the guild wars

  • Travian — alliance warfare as the entire point, with territorial consequences.
  • Grepolis — coordinated naval and land campaigns.
  • Torn — faction warfare with a genuine economy behind it.
  • Goodgame Empire — alliance battles with a gentler on-ramp.

Disclosure: TokenLordsRPG is our own game. It appears in these lists because it genuinely fits the category, and it is labelled every time so you can weigh the recommendation accordingly.

Wartune Alternatives — Common Questions

What browser game combines RPG combat with city building?

It is a rarer combination than it should be. Forge of Empires adds tactical battles to a builder; browser RPGs that attach a kingdom economy to a character — TokenLordsRPG works this way — come at it from the other direction. The question worth asking is which layer you want to be primary, because almost every hybrid makes one of them the side dish.

Is Wartune pay-to-win?

Wartune sells VIP levels and daily reset purchases, which raise daily limits and grant extra attempts at repeatable content. Free play is possible and slower. When comparing alternatives the useful check is whether a game's premium purchases add attempts and shorten waits, or unlock gear and content you cannot otherwise reach — read the shop in the first hour and decide for yourself.

What replaced the browser MMORPG hybrids of that era?

Most of the genre moved to mobile, and the browser survivors mostly specialised — pure builders, pure idle RPGs, pure collectors. The hybrids that remain tend to be smaller projects that keep the combination while running fewer premium currencies and fewer paid progression tracks than the originals did.
